Why does Endometriosis cause painful sex?

It's #InternationalEndometriosisAwarenessMonth - a whole month dedicated to raising awareness and educating people about the effects of endometriosis. We know that 75% of women will experience painful sex in their lifetime, but we also know that pain during sex is a common symptom of endometriosis. Penetration and movements related to intercourse can pull and stretch endometrial tissue, particularly if it has grown behind the vagina or lower uterus. Women should not suffer during this time during endometriosis, so we looked into how you can relieve this pain and how EmpressBody products can help to ease the discomfort.

What is sex like with endometriosis?

Some women may experience some of the following with endometriosis:

· acute pain that feels like stabbing

· deep pain within the abdomen

· mild to severe pain

Pain varies from woman to woman and might depend on the type of sex. Some experience pain only during deep penetration, while others experience pain after sex, not during sex.

What's the best position for sex with endometriosis?

Some sexual positions put less pressure on areas of the pelvis that contain endometrial tissue. An individual should experiment with their partner to understand what is best for them and their body. Although some positions are better than others, such as women with endometriosis positioning themselves on top can control the depth and speed of penetration to determine a comfortable pace. More comfortable positions could include sex with shallow penetration. For example:

· face-to-face sex

· spooning

· raising the hips of the person with endometriosis

· a modified doggy style

The missionary position can often be painful for women with endometriosis. Here are some extra tips a person with endometriosis can take to reduce pain during sex:

· having penetrative intercourse at certain times of the month. It may be less painful in the week after ovulation, or in the 2 weeks following a period.

· extending foreplay to increase the amount of natural lubrication before penetration

· practising gentle and slow penetration

· using plenty of lubricant during sex

· communicating with a partner about what does and does not feel good

· having a warm bath or taking a painkiller to ease symptoms before sex

· trying different positions

· practising forms of sexual activity that do not involve penetration

At EmpressBody we recommend the following products:

EmpressBody Detox Pearls

EmpressBody yoni Detox Pearls can help to ease endometriosis symptoms as the pearls work based on their specially selected herbs which create a pulling effect that draws toxins, bad bacteria, dead cells, old blood clots, mucus and more from your yoni, while at the same time tightening your yoni and deterring vaginal dryness and other ailments. In particular, the pearls help to regulate the menstrual cycle correctly as endometriosis causes retrograde menstruation, where the blood does not flow out of the body as it should, this is one of the main theories as to why women have endometriosis. The pearls also help to flush out the endometrial tissue that is deposited in locations they shouldn't be e.g the outside of the womb and uterus.

Because every woman is so beautifully unique we do tell everyone that their relief may differ from other women, but we generally advise women with endometriosis to complete a full detox of 24 pearls back to back. This means inserting 6 pearls over a course of 24 days, leaving each detox pearl in for 3 days and not just 2 days to help with the endometriosis.
